Built from sandstone, the iconic Barrenjoey Lighthouse on the headland at Sydney's beautiful Palm Beach, inspired Rachel to write this song. The rolling accompaniment creates the feeling of the tide's ebb and flow. The altos often carry the tune, while the sopranos provide soaring harmonies above. The bridge builds the anticipation as we climb the Smuggler's Track to take in the view over the ocean.
The Lighthouse SA
Lyrics
High on a headland
On a winding road
Carved out of sandstone
A century ago
A beacon for the brave
Adrift upon the waves
They find their way
To the lighthouse
Watching over the shore
Keeping the stories of what came before
It's seen lightning strike
And loss of life
But it's saved so many more
To the lighthouse we'll go
See the world below
As the tides ebb and flow
Storms will gather
And the cold winds blow
Painters and dreamers
Capture the glow
A beacon for the brave
Adrift upon the waves
They find their way
Step onto the Smuggler's Track
Eyes ahead, no turning back
Now is the time
Look out for the flash of white
Don't give up, the end's in sight
As we climb
